Iron Man — The name of this superhero is derived from the armor he wears. Since his debut in 1963 in the Marvel comics his armor suits have evolved and improved in design and function, but none are more elaborate and more flashy as the one depicted in the 2008 Iron Man movie.
In the movie, when dressed in the red and gold armor, Tony Stark can defy gravity and fly around freely at will going every which direction at speeds matching that of a fighter jet. The suit also has the ability to shoot blasts of energy from palm of the hands. The suit also has the ability to connect to various communications systems such as satellites, phones, and computers throughout the world. On top of all that this suit also is equipped with guns and missles abling Starks to shoot targets with pinpoint accuracy with the assistance of an highly sophisticated targeting system.
A Hero With a Heart
When Iron Man is not out saving the world he is Anthony “Tony” Stark. A human being of flesh and blood (except for his heart) with no super powers of his own; unless, you call his super intelligence his power. Stark was born with extreme intelligence. He inherited Stark Industries at the age of 21, after the death of his parents.
In the movie Iron Man starks built 3 armor suits:
- Metallic Silver/Grey – This was the initial armor built Tony Stark. This one was bulky and cumbersome and was not able to fly and required much more energy to operate than the successors.
- Silver Armor – This armor type was the second one built by Tony Stark after the first prototype. This one was built with more advanced materials state of the art weaponry and communication capabilites.
- The Red and Gold Armor – This is the most commonly know armor for Iron Man. This one is equipped with all the bells and whistles at the previous Silver Armored suit but it also has flight stabalizers, stealth capabilities, energy bursts from the palm, and most important it wont freeze during flight at high altitudes.

Tony Stark is a billionaire, inventor, and arms manufacturer who leads a charmed life and is very suave and charismatic with the ladies. Initially, Stark had created his the armor suit in an attempt to save his own life. When Stark was fatally injured by an exploding booby trap and was captured by the enemy he was ordered by the terrorist to invent new armaments for them. And with the fact that a fractured piece of shrapnel was working its way toward his heart, instead of creating new armament for the terrorists he constructs a suit of transistorized armor that also served as a pacemaker to keep his heart beating. As Iron Man, Stark defeats the enemy and escapes, but he is doomed to remain partially mechanical until the day he dies.
